can not obtain root. I started by downgrading to the firmware included in your package, I then systematically tried Kingoroot and Kingroot. I started with PC versions then tried apks. I have run all 4 variations of the procedure 15 times and I have yet to obtain root. any idea what could be holding me back?

If you’re having trouble getting temp root with kingoroot/kingoroot you can also try their PC version which attempts root through the PC via a USB cable. You can also try alternate version to the kingOroot programs by googling for alternatives. Unfortunately the temp root part of the process is the most unstable. For some reason one of those apps (whether through the PC or phone) seems to work better for some peoples phones compared to others. Another thing I realized is that if your phone starts to become hot from to many attempts it’s best to remove the battery, let it cool down a litter and then try again. Also make sure you do a full factory reset and clear all your cache BEFORE flashing to stock 5. I would try to do the factory reset, clear everything, then reflash stock 5. After that make sure you’re connected to wifi and attempt the rooting methods again to see if you have better luck. Let us know what works for you in case anyone else in the future reads this with a similar problem.

I did not begin the process with a factory reset before the firmware downgrade. I will try this and report back, it may not be until the morning though. Hope they may a guide like this to go to 6. 1 and keep root. I’m on stock 5. 1 its a little unstable but i have root weee. Oh it took about 12 hours to get it to this point.

When you install the program «Minimal ADB and Fastboot» it will make a folder for itself where your other programs are located. You need to place the «samsung_unlock_n4-fix» file in that same folder. That is where it will look for the file and is the reason you are getting the message «No such file or directory». At the top of the guide, under Files Needed For Root this is explained in #3. The comment says: «place this file in the install directory of «Minimal ADB and Fastboot» (Usually C:Program Files (x86)Minimal ADB and Fastboot. )»

Be aware you can only upgrade to 5. 1 at the moment because that is a special version of the firmware. It has the boot loader removed which is why it is called «systemonlyN910V-51. tar». Because the boot loader is removed you still keep TWRP and root access. If you try to flash a stock version of 5. 1 or any other firmware you would LOSE root.

So, I’ve been trying this for a couple of hours, and I keep getting stuck at the same point. Here’s what my cmd prompt looks like.

I have been able to verify root multiple times through root checker. When I get to the point that I type «su» after going into the shell, it basically just returns the line. After pasting the next bit of code, nothing happens. Any idea what’s going on? I’ve factory reset, and am on 5. If you’re still confused I suggest you watch either of the 2 video instructions which are linked at the end of the guide. Both of them have a segment where you can watch them type in the adb codes. Check to see what they are doing to help pin point your mistake. Respond back here if you did or didn’t get it working in case anyone in the future has the same issue as you. Also: Make sure the file «samsung_unlock_n4-fix»is place in the INSTALL DIRECTORY of where minimal adb is located! It’s usually under c:/program(x86)Remember you will be repeating steps 2-6 TWICE. The first time is to change your CID the second is to unlock it.

I’m currently on stock 6. 1, will this take me to rooted 5. 11 so I can unlock the bootloader?

This will bring you back to 5. 1 but rooted. Make sure, BEFORE YOU ROOT, that you wipe your phone clean and flash a factory version of 5. You can use this guide for any version. However if Youarent currently running 5. 1 then you will need to flash your firmware to 5. 1 using odin3. The firmware and odin3 are included in the install file at the top of the guide. A link to video instructions on how to use odin3 and flash to 5. 1 is at the bottom of the guide.

I was running on 6. 1 on 910v and I was trying to do rootoking, but it didnt work, so I downgraded to 5. 1 stock rom ,now Im in the bootloop, I can go back to 6. 1 but then I wont able to do the rootoking to do adb hack to get my boatloader unlocked. any help? I tried two three different stock rom, but all of them are in loop. Thanks

After the second time you are suppose to leave you SD card out (step 12) to prevent the bootloop. It is then placed back in the phone after accessing TWRP Recovery Mode (step 29). You cannot backup your non rooted rom BEFORE rooting or flashing. The point of the flash is that it overwrites what ever is already saved. That is why the very first steps say to backup all data before starting. Any apps you had before (paid and not paid) are saved to your google account and can be downloaded again. Any data accompanied to them will either be on the cloud or should of been in the back that was made in the beginning. If you ever need to reset the stock rom included with this guide (and on the net) is the same rom that was on your phone. No matter how you do this process there is no way completely restore a non rooted rom at a push of a button. You will always have to start with a blank slate and re-install all your apps and settings. You can only do that with rooted roms using programs like TWRP and titanium backup. AFTER flashing and rooting you should make a back up, which I will add into the steps.

I will try to reload the files in a new link later today. I’ll post a message here when it’s complete. In the meantime all the files can be found separately by either going to the other links/videos I posted or googling the files.

First I would make sure you have to correct type of phone. Make sure you SID does indeed start with 15. Also that you have a 910V Verizon Note 4. Once you get back to a non-bootlooping state (by going back to your working default) back up everything on you phone (phone memory and SD card) to your computer. Do a FULL factory wipe AND format your SD card IN THE PHONE. At that point attempt to downgrade back to 5. You can find the stock rom in the links in this guide along with a video at the bottom of the guide that shows you how to downgrade. Let us know if that help or any problems you had.

Hi, I got that issue fixed, I was able to flashed the rom and it seems to working fine, but my GSM card isnt recognized by phone anymore, it stayed gray out, I tried to setup APN settings too my wifi works though. Thanks

I would like to root my note 4 but I tried to downgrade using odin but it will not load the older firmware, it keeps telling me that it failed, so I tried a couple other firmwares and I get the same thing. The only firmware that would reload is PF3 v6. Can anyone help me get this to downgrade to root, or is there any way to root with the v6. 1 ??

I’m in the same boat. I’ve tried multiple firmwares and now I can’t keep it out of a bootloop. I have an original developer edition but I believe I’ve turned into a retail version. I can get into odin mode and it will charge just fine. My last backup is BOK3 and is on my pc. but I don’t even know how to restore that.
